NIRSA's New Student Leadership Team Takes Over
By Tiffany Lundy, National Student Representative, 2004-05
Congratulations to the new NIRSA Student Leadership Team! Each year students are nominated by their peers to stand for office and become a leader in NIRSA. This past year an outstanding group of students was nominated, and the Nominations and Elections Committee faced the difficult task of slating two students for each region out of the twenty-two nominated. As a member of the committee, I faced a special challenge, because I had enjoyed the honor of getting to know most of the candidates at regional conferences or Student Lead Ons.
The students who were slated for office volunteered at the student information table, in the NIRSA Foundation Career Opportunities Center, and in many other capacities while at the 2005 Annual Conference in Orlando. Darcy Lee, Linda Clauss, Nicole Hagar, and Ben Chula attended the Board meetings prior to the Conference to increase their knowledge of NIRSA business. In a valiant demonstration of their dedication to NIRSA Student Members, three of the outgoing regional student representatives, Carly Morse, Katie Milligan and Dan Wahl, also attended the board meetings.
At the student business meeting, the candidates had an opportunity to share their experience and vision with their peers. This year there were two students who were nominated to stand for office from the floor. Going through the process of standing for office is a valuable experience and these students are recognized as leaders regardless of who has the greater number of votes.
I believe that this leadership team will be highly successful because they are all passionate, knowledgeable, and prepared.
Thank you to the 2004-2005 Regional Student Representatives for all of your hard work and for laying the foundation for future student leaders!
