Region I Student Summit: The first of our many opportunities this fall!
By Debbie Jones, Montclair State University, Region I Student Representative
It is a true honor to be a part of this organization. The students and professionals within NIRSA simply amaze me. Saturday, September 24th was the Region I Student Campus Recreation Summit. The Summit was hosted by Montclair State University in New Jersey. With 50 Student and Professional Members in attendance, the Summit was a success. Included in those participants were representatives from New Hampshire to Pennsylvania. A common goal of expanding experience and opportunity awakened spirits and pulled together states, institutions and Members. The potential, ability and strength within each student are utilized through programs such as the Student Campus Recreation Summit.
The purpose of the Summit was to bring together Region I Members in a fun, friendly environment suitable for networking, building relationships, and educational experiences. The Summit also acted as a formal meeting for State Student Representatives and Campus Contacts. The opportunity to meet and work with the active student leaders within Region I is invaluable. The State Student Representatives and Campus Contacts took an active role in facilitating sessions and roundtables. Extended sessions included a group icebreaker and a special event: Trivia Bowl. The Summit was also immediately followed by a friendly game of intramural volleyball.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteers, presenters and facilitators of the Region I Student Campus Recreation Summit. Each opportunity for growth exposes new talent and creativity. I firmly believe that we each have the potential to be exceptional in what we do. I look forward to the next experience to collectively work with the students and professionals within Region I, and across the nation.
I would also take this opportunity to suggest that every Student and Professional Member of NIRSA act on the upcoming opportunity to attend and participate in your Region's Student Lead On. As I mentioned above, it is truly a worthwhile experience! Upcoming events include:
Region II Student Lead On
Region III Student Lead On
Region IV Student Lead On
Region V Student Lead On
Region VI Student Lead On
