NIRSA Foundation’s 2006 Recreational Sports Journal Award Winners
Three from Illinois honored for their writing
The 2006 NIRSA Foundation’s Recreational Sports Journal Award for Outstanding Writing will be presented at the 2006 NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Exposition.
This award will be presented at the Honor Award Banquet to Brent A. Beggs, Ph.D., Illinois State University; Daniel J. Elkins, Ph.D., Illinois State University; and Shawn Powers, M.S., Peoria Park District, who won for their Fall/Winter 2005 issue article entitled “Overcoming Barriers to Participation in Campus Recreational Sports.”
Brent A. Beggs, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation at Illinois State University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in recreation and sport management.
Daniels J. Elkins, Ph.D., is also an Assistant Professor in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation at Illinois State University, where he teaches courses in evaluation, human resource management and leisure concepts and theories.
Shawn Powers, M.S., is the Athletics Coordinator for the Peoria Park District in Peoria, Illinois.
