Celebrate! It's family reunion time
By Greg Jordan, CRSS, Oakland University, NIRSA President
Dear NIRSA Colleagues,
With the excitement and anticipation of the Annual Conference in Louisville just a few days away, I am looking forward to the time we will share together devoted to networking, development and education! A big thank you goes to the Host Committee, chaired by Dale Ramsay from the University of Louisville, for providing a wonderful setting. A second thank you goes to the Conference Program Committee, chaired by Past President Tammy Garstka and Co-Chairs Julie Kipper and Sylvia Chan, for putting together a meaningful conference program with a great mix of sessions!
One of the best ways to describe NIRSA was authored by John Lentz, Indiana State University, in the 50th Anniversary Remembrance Book. He describes NIRSA as his family and the Annual Conference as the family reunion! I can't think of a better way to describe what we are about to experience. It's a time to gather and learn more about how we can improve the programs, facilities and services that we provide on our campus. It also is a time to come together to celebrate the successes of the past twelve months, re-connect with friends and colleagues, and meet and get to know a number of new friends and family.
For those colleagues who are unable to join the family reunion, we will miss you and will be thinking good thoughts about you. Many members have to stay back and "watch the shop" at home, as the activities on campus still go on. Thank you for making that sacrifice so your co-workers are able to make the trip to Louisville. Please remember that if you are unable to attend, proxy ballots for various elections are online until 24 hours prior to the respective meeting. I encourage you to cast a ballot!
For those of you 2,000+ making the trip to Louisville: safe travels, enjoy and learn a lot so you may return home with renewed energy, enthusiasm and expertise!
Sincerely,
Greg
