NIRSA Board of Directors meets in Louisville
Highlights from the meetings
The NIRSA Board of Directors held its Annual Meeting preceding the 2006 Annual Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. Highlights included:
Financial
The Board approved the revised “Ten Guiding Financial Principles and Financial Reserve System.”
It also approved the distribution of the 2005 Operating Surplus of $344,337 in the following manner:
- Pay-down of NNC Building Note: $100,000
- Fully fund FY 2005 depreciation: $47,688
- Bring E&I Fund to recommended level: $12,060
- Addition to NNC staff merit pool: $20,000
- Transfer balance to Operating Reserve: $164,589
Student Leadership Team
Fund travel for a yearly three-day Student Leadership Team Meeting during the Summer Board meetings at the NNC.
When groups take office
The Board authorized incoming regional student representatives, student state representatives, and state directors to take office immediately following the annual conference.
Hazing research
The Board directed NIRSA President Maureen McGonagle to ask Danell Haines of The Ohio State University’s National Research Institute for Recreational Sports & Wellness if she would contact Mary Madden of the Hazing Research Project to discuss how NIRSA can best assist with the Project’s hazing research on college campuses.
ACSM
NIRSA will explore a possible collaboration with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
Hurricane Relief Efforts
Past Presidents’ Representative-elect Juliette Moore will contact Dillard University to investigate how NIRSA can assist Dillard.
NIRSA’s 60th anniversary
The Board will establish a work team to prepare for NIRSA’s upcoming 60th anniversary celebration.
