National Collegiate Golf Championship
November 10-12
Local Qualifying event applications now open for Vegas Championship
Collegiate Golf Alliance (CGA), the premier online registration and golf event management company, is pleased to accept applications to host a Local Qualifying (LQ) event for the 2006 NCGC program. Applications to host an LQ are open until May 15, 2006. Universities that wish to host an event must apply during this period, although specific event details such as date and golf course are not required on the application.
Winning teams from Local Qualifiers advance to the 5th Annual National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada November 10-12, 2006. A two-person scramble event for collegiate and university amateurs, the NCGC allows golfers to compete for their university to see who will be the 2006 National Champion. The Championship has three divisions: Student, Faculty/Staff and Alumni/Community.
This amateur golf event is focused on university recreational golfers and consists of 30-50 Local Qualifying tournaments held across the United States in the late spring, summer and fall. Local Qualifying winners advance to the official National Collegiate Golf Championship. The CGA and NIRSA promote and market the event to over 700 colleges and universities, making this the premier recreational college golf event. LQ Host schools receive a prize package valued at over $500 and over $40 per player. LQ Host schools that have over 40 players receive a Southwest Airlines round-trip ticket to defray travel costs to the Championship.
Portions of proceeds of the Local Qualifiers and the Championship will benefit the NIRSA Foundation. To date, the NCGC program has raised over $12,500 for the Foundation.
“The NCGC brings together students, faculty and alumni to compete for their university and against other colleges and universities. The level of enthusiasm and involvement over the past few years promises quite an exciting program for both Local Qualifiers and a true National Championship,” said CGA’s President and CEO Mike Munson.
Sponsors of the event include Southwest Airlines, Warrior Custom Golf, Cutter & Buck, American Hole in One, Red Bull, Sports Illustrated On Campus, Advantage Fitness Products and American Golf. To provide additional resources, CGA has appointed six regional managers to assist in the programming of campus golf events as well as help coordinate the National Tournament.
In last year’s event, University of Vermont golfers Jeremy Appelbaum and David Grossman shot an eight under, 64, to win the 2005 NCGC at Badlands Golf Course. “We're so grateful to the CGA, our Regional Manager and rec sports for the opportunity. We came from a program that was cut, so this provided an opportunity to go out and compete,” said Appelbaum.
