Leadership Notes
Professional Members: Is it your time to lead?
By Tom Kirch, Oregon State University, NIRSA President-elect
This is a moment to talk about leadership.
As I stood for the office of President-elect at the Annual Business Meeting in Louisville, I spoke about the opportunities and the responsibilities concerning the leadership of our association. We are at an important crossroads of NIRSA in which there are significant challenges and opportunities facing the association. Effective leadership will guide our course for the future.
There are many ways in which members can provide that leadership, but this is the time for Professional Members who have been considering standing for office to begin finalizing their decision (the student election process will occur in the fall). In my own experience, there has been nothing more rewarding than serving on the NIRSA Board of Directors, and while contributing to the association, being blessed with my own personal growth. What an opportunity for you too to serve NIRSA, while expanding your capacity for professional development.
The Nominations & Elections Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2007 President-elect, and Vice Presidents for Regions I, III, and V. Please send nominations (self-nominations or nominations of others) via email to NIRSA. Deadline for submitting materials is September 15. View more information on the responsibilities of each office and access the nomination form.
As you evaluate whether this is the right time for you to stand for office, I would encourage you to speak with any member of the NIRSA Board of Directors, former NIRSA Board members, or anyone on the Nominations & Elections Committee. Should you have any questions concerning serving NIRSA in this capacity, please contact me by email or call 541-737-6829.
Is this your moment to accept that leadership role to guide, direct, and lead?
