President Maureen McGonagle presided over the Summer Board Meeting at the NIRSA National Center June 12-16. In addition, the NIRSA Student Leadership Team, led by National Student Representative Amy Jo Jenkins, met to develop strategies for the coming year. Highlights of the board meeting include:
- Approval to join The Higher Education Associations’ Sustainability Consortium (HEASC). The sustainability consortium is a network of higher education associations with a commitment to advancing sustainability in our constituencies and in the system of higher education itself.
- Reaffirmation of the School of Recreational Sports Management schedule rotation for the next three years (Level I for two years, then Level II in the third year).
- Presentation of the FY2005 financial review by NIRSA outside CPA firm Moss Adams, LLP.
- Discussion of developing NIRSA’s Knowledge Communities, modeled after NASPA. The Knowledge Communities would allow more opportunities for membership involvement. Knowledge Communities provide opportunities for professionals with similar interests to explore topics for discussion and debate, to exchange programming ideas, and to focus on issues for the consideration of the Board of Directors.
A big thank you to outgoing Region II Vice President William Ehling and Region IV Vice President James Pitre for their service to the association over the past two years, and to outgoing National Student Representative Linda Clauss for her year of service.
