Leadership Notes
Exciting year ahead for NIRSA Student Members
By Amy Jo Jenkins, University of Texas at Austin, National Student Representative
Greetings NIRSA Student Members!
Can you believe how fast summer is flying by and that August is already here? I hope everyone has had at least a couple opportunities to relax and unwind before heading back to campus for the school year. The Student Leadership Team is already hard at work updating the student website, finalizing goals set back in June, developing new leadership opportunities and ensuring that a Lead On/Summit will be held in each region for the second year in a row. If you are interested in assisting with a conference or workshop in your region, please contact your Regional Student Representative. We always need presenters, volunteers, planners and, of course, attendees! If you have never attended a conference, the Lead Ons would be an excellent introduction, as they are “for the students, by the students” and your presence and input are highly valued.
If you are interested in getting more involved in NIRSA, please visit the student website or contact your Regional Student Representative. We are currently looking for a couple more State Student Representatives, and as always, a Campus Contact at each institution. If you are not sure how much time you can commit, the Campus Contact position may be perfect for you. It is not a significant time commitment, but is an essential role that enables students at your university to discover the many benefits of being a NIRSA Member.
I would like to thank those students who submitted presentation proposals for the Annual Conference in Minneapolis. This is one of the many ways students can get more involved with NIRSA. The NIRSA Master Calendar has the most updated information on conferences, workshops, and extramural and sport club championships in your state and region.
I hope you continue to enjoy the remainder of your summer and stay cool! And keep sharing your enthusiasm and ideas to help provide the best opportunities for members and future members.
