The Campus of the Future: A Meeting of the Minds, which took place July 8-11 in Honolulu, was a first-of-its-kind joint conference presented by The Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA), the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), and the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP). NIRSA Executive Director Dr. Kent Blumenthal, Dr. Lloyd Hisaka, University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Kathleen Hatch, Washington State University, presented a NIRSA exhibit at the CHEMA Poster Session on July 10.
The NIRSA exhibit, titled “Collegiate Recreational Sports Programs & Facilities The Veritable Campus Atlas Supporting Higher Education,” made a compelling case to continue investment in quality and professionally administered campus recreational sports programs and facilities. It stressed that improved recruitment and retention, and enhanced student satisfaction and success, are part of the return on investment realized by higher education communities that actively support and sustain these invaluable student-centered campus operations.
The NIRSA contingent was also able to participate in several worthwhile discussions, including meetings with the Higher Education Associations’ Sustainability Consortium; with members of the Student Affairs in Higher Education Consortium; and with American College Personnel Association Executive Director Greg Roberts concerning ACPA’s plans to develop a professional registry.
