National Marketing Institute Star Trac Student Grant winners announced
Student Members Ashlee Deskin and Lisa Martinez each win $1,000 grants to attend the NMI
NIRSA is pleased to announce that Ashlee Deskin of Sonoma State University and Lisa Yvonne Martinez of Texas State University-San Marcos are winners of $1,000 Star Trac Student Grants. Star Trac, a longtime Associate Member and NIRSA Foundation Corporate Partner, will cover the registration costs for both students to attend the National Marketing Institute, taking place November 29-December 1 in San Antonio, Texas. In addition, each student will be presented with a check for the remainder of the grant amount to offset their NMI travel expenses.
“The students of today provide the leadership of tomorrow,” said Doug Marquette of Star Trac. “This is a small way of passing along an opportunity to two students who might not otherwise have one.”
Deskin certainly agrees with that assessment. “NIRSA is the gateway to opportunities, and my door has just been opened," she said.
Martinez was also excited and grateful for the award. “This is my first National Marketing Institute, and being one of the grant recipients is only going to make it more enjoyable. I can’t wait,” she said.
Deskin and Martinez will write a summary report of the 2006 NMI and have it distributed it to their regions through their NIRSA regional newsletters and/or NIRSA Regional Student Reps.
