Juliette Moore receives national award for work with Big Brothers Big Sisters

Juliette Moore, NIRSA Past Presidents’ Representative and Director of Campus Recreation at the University of Arizona, has received a national Heroes In Our Midst award for giving her time and compassion to guide and mentor a young girl through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson. Juliette received the award October 24 during a presentation at the University of Arizona’s Student Recreation Center.

Heroes In Our Midst is a national program sponsored by the Greeting Card Association to reinforce the tradition of connecting with others. “This program is all about the rewards of connecting to others and building human ties,” said Juliette Bogus, Heroes In Our Midst spokesperson. “We hope that in honoring Juliette Moore for her mentoring role as a Big Sister and making a difference in someone’s life, others will be inspired to make special connections with the heroes in their own lives.”

Moore received a special medallion greeting card and ceremonial check for $1,000. The $1,000 check will be donated in Moore’s name to the local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency to support similar mentoring matches in the community.

After Moore accepted the Heroes In Our Midst award, her “Little Sister” Monique Ramirez read her own card to Moore, stating, “I really appreciate you being a positive role model and influence in my life, especially through all the ups and downs.”

Moore said, “Having a kidney transplant really opened my eyes to how precious life is, and how much we have to give others. I realized that I still have a lot to offer, and I truly believe that every person should take the time to connect with someone special in their life. You’re never too old, too important or too busy to reach out to someone.”

NIRSA Members have a special opportunity to help Moore’s Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter receive an additional donation by sending cards to: Juliette Moore, 160 E Alameda, Tucson AZ 85701. Messages of congratulations or thanks are encouraged, as Moore will personally read all correspondence.
