NIRSA has appointed Mike Giles, Director of Recreational Sports at the University of Southern Mississippi, to the newly formed United States Lifeguard Standards Coalition.
The United States Lifeguard Standards Coalition was recently established by the United States Lifesaving Association, the YMCA and the Red Cross to establish evidence-based standards for lifeguard skills, rescue techniques and protocols. Giles will serve as NIRSA’s representative on the coalition and will provide input from his 38 years of experience in lifeguarding and water safety.
“Mike is well-respected in NIRSA for his knowledge and expertise regarding aquatics and lifeguarding, and I am confident he will be a beneficial addition to the coalition,” said NIRSA President Maureen McGonagle, CRSS.
“I think it is a great opportunity for NIRSA to be involved as a participant organization in the group, and I am honored to represent NIRSA on the coalition,” Giles said.
