The NIRSA Board of Directors voted unanimously to accept the American Leisure Academy’s (ALA) request for NIRSA Affiliate Status. ALA serves as a forum for the promotion and advancement of the quality of life of individuals through leisure and recreation, and acknowledges the contributions of educators, practitioners, and others credited with advancing leisure and recreation. In exchange for NIRSA Affiliate Status, ALA has agreed to offer discounted registration fees to NIRSA Members for ALA education and training programs, and to leverage ALA assets to assist NIRSA with research and presentations, where feasible. NIRSA Executive Director Dr. Kent J. Blumenthal presented the details to the ALA at their membership meeting on March 14 at the Center for Civic Society at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
