Leadership Notes
Going beyond the finish line
By Amy Jo Jenkins, The University of Texas at Austin, National Student Representative
Greetings NIRSA Student Members!
It was fantastic to see many of you a couple weeks ago in Minneapolis, where we had more than 675 student attendees, almost a third of the total! I know some of you got caught up in the job interviewing process and spent much of your time in the Career Opportunities Center or elsewhere interviewing. But I hope most of you were able to attend some valuable educational sessions or even have in-depth conversations in the elevator or breakout rooms with friends and colleagues. I would love to hear your feedback regarding the Student Hospitality Area (free food, massages, etc.), the Student Information Table, Take a Student to Lunch and any other aspects of the Annual Conference.
If you have any questions on how to get involved, what events are coming up in your region, or anything else, please contact your NEW National Student Rep or Regional Student Rep. I have no doubts that they will do a fantastic job this year!
I would like to thank all of you this year for your assistance, contributions, involvement and passion. Each and every one of you has contributed in some way. Take a moment to step back and reflect on why you became involved in NIRSA, or why you’re thinking about getting more involved. Who has made a difference? Who pushed and challenged you to improve? Be sure to take a minute to thank those people, because you’ll be in their shoes someday.
Thank you to the 2006-2007 Student Leadership Team, including the Regional Student Reps, State Student Reps, and Campus Contacts. And a special thank you to the staff at The University of Texas at Austin for allowing me to serve NIRSA in this capacity and supporting me 100 percent. We could not have achieved all of our goals without your support and effort.
In closing, I would like to congratulate my fellow graduates of the Class of 2007both undergraduates and graduates! Have a fabulous summer and do something fun before you are back in grad school, or (oh no!) actually have a full-time job for the first time ever! It has been an honor to serve in this great association, which boasts so many talented, revered, and passionate Student and Professional Members.
Thank you again for everything, and please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can ever be of any assistance. Fantastic job this year!
Amy Jo
