NIRSA passes resolution of support for Virginia Tech
The Association stands in solidarity with our friends at VT
The following resolution of support was passed during the Annual Business Meeting on April 20 in Minneapolis. The resolution was crafted and presented by NIRSA Executive Director Dr. Kent J. Blumenthal.
RESOLUTION
Whereas, the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) embodies values intrinsic in Higher Education, including the right to intellectual and academic pursuit; the right of free expression; the right to pursue personal fitness and healthy lifestyle; and the right to live, work and study in a University Community with a sense of wellbeing and security; and,
Whereas, the recent horrific events involving the wanton and senseless killing of innocent students and faculty that occurred at honored NIRSA Member Institution Virginia Tech was a tragedy of profound proportions for Virginia Tech, the NIRSA Family of Members, and the Nation at large; and,
Whereas, the NIRSA Family of Members share a deep sense of sorrow at the pain and suffering that now envelops Virginia Tech students, faculty and staff and the community of Blacksburg, Virginia; and,
Whereas, NIRSA expresses special thanks to its Family of Members who have sought to express their care and support for Virginia Tech students, faculty and staff this week during the 2007 NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Exposition.
Therefore, Be It Resolved, that Members of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association express its deepest and sincere sympathy to the family and friends of loved ones lost in the recent violence at Virginia Tech; and,
Further, Be It Resolved, that NIRSA expresses its sincere hope that now may begin a period of healing and the quick return of good health, happiness, and sense of wellbeing and security for the faculty, students and staff who live, work and study at honored NIRSA Institutional Member, Virginia Tech.
