Host a local qualifying event for the 2007 National Collegiate Golf Championship
Part of the National Campus Championship Series
The Collegiate Golf Alliance (CGA) is accepting spring, summer and fall local qualifiers for the National Collegiate Golf Championship (NCGC), part of the NIRSA National Campus Championship Series. Host schools receive a package valued at over $500 and individual players receive prizes valued at over $50. Local qualifier host schools that have over 40 players receive a Southwest Airlines round-trip ticket to defray travel costs to the Championship. Applications to host a local qualifying event are due May 26. Universities that wish to host an event must apply before this date, although specific event details such as date and golf course are not required on the application.
Top finishers in three divisions (Students, Faculty/Staff, and Alumni/Community) from each local qualifier will advance to the 6th Annual National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, November 9-11. A two-person scramble event for collegiate and university amateurs, the NCGC consists of 30-50 local qualifying tournaments held across the United States in spring, summer and fall.
CGA President and CEO Mike Munson said, “We are very excited to be able to expand the NCGC program to allow more schools the opportunity to participate and compete. The thrill of competing for your university is now available to more students, staff and alumni. Returning players are eagerly awaiting the program, and new participants will really be impressed.”
Portions of proceeds from the local qualifiers and the Championship will benefit the NIRSA Foundation to help provide opportunities for students through professional development, research, scholarships, and educational resources. To date, the NCGC program has raised over $19,000 for the Foundation.
Sponsors of the event include Southwest Airlines, Warrior Custom Golf, Cutter & Buck, American Hole in One, Red Bull, Golf Digest, Advantage Fitness Products, and American Golf. To provide additional resources, CGA has appointed six regional managers to assist in the programming of campus golf events and help coordinate the national tournament.
