New Student Leadership Team kicks off 2007-2008 in Corvallis
By Diane Sylofski, University of NebraskaLincoln, National Student Representative
Hello, Student Members! I hope you are all enjoying some summer rest, even though the summer is moving fast!
The NIRSA Student Leadership Team is already diving into the new year. The team met in Corvallis, Oregon June 27-30. During this first meeting, the leadership team reviewed their responsibilities and brainstormed and set goals for the upcoming year. The outcomes from the summer meeting will be published in next month’s NIRSA Know and will be posted on the student member page of the NIRSA website. The 2006-2007 Student Leadership Team did some great things, and this year’s team hopes to evaluate and build upon the goals set last year. We are excited to represent all of the NIRSA Student Members and look forward to hearing your voices as we head into 2008.
The 2007-2008 Student Leadership Team includes Regional Representatives from all six regions:
One of our goals for the next year is to increase member involvement. It is never too late to get involved. As an undergraduate bound by my English major, I could not see the opportunity before me in Campus Recreation. Yet, I have been able to break through those constraints and have realized the wealth of opportunity NIRSA provides. Please feel free to contact your regional student representative, or me, to ask questions, express concerns, or learn more about opportunities to get involved. The regional representatives can provide you with involvement information in addition to offering you the contact information of the Regional Vice President, State Directors, State Student Representatives, and Campus Contacts. Get in contact with all of these representatives and check the NIRSA website regularly in order to fully capitalize on leadership opportunities.
Finally, thank you to the 2006-2007 Student Leadership Team for setting a standard which the 2007-2008 team expects to build upon. We have high expectations of all of the student members and are excited to expand last year’s team’s successes in 2008. I hope you are all looking forward to this next year as much as I am!
