2007 National Collegiate Golf Championship local qualifying sites announced
Part of the National Campus Championship Series
The Collegiate Golf Alliance (CGA) announced that 45 universities have been selected to host a local qualifying event for the 2007 National Collegiate Golf Championship. This year’s NCGC program will offer local qualifiers in 25 states. Defending student champions from Cal Poly Pomona, alumni divisional champions from University of Southern Mississippi, and Faculty/Staff champions from Western Kentucky will try to defend their titles. USM returns for a fifth year of hosting, as do Pac-10 rivals USC and UCLA and Big 12 rivals Texas and Nebraska. Top finishers in three divisions (Students, Faculty/Staff, and Alumni/Community) from each local qualifier will advance to the 6th Annual National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, November 9-11. A two-person scramble event, the NCGC “brings together students, faculty and alumni to compete for their university against other colleges and universities,” said CGA President and CEO Mike Munson. “The level of enthusiasm and involvement over the past few years promises to generate quite an exciting program for both local qualifiers and a true National Championship.”
Host schools receive a package valued at over $500 and individual players receive prizes valued at over $80. Local qualifier host schools that have more than 40 players receive a Southwest Airlines round-trip ticket to defray travel costs to the Championship.
Portions of proceeds from the local qualifiers and the Championship will benefit the NIRSA Foundation to help provide opportunities for students through professional development, research, scholarships, and educational resources. To date, the NCGC program has raised over $19,000 for the Foundation.
Sponsors of the event include Southwest Airlines, Red Bull, Golf Digest, Up Swing Golf, Cutter & Buck, American Hole in One, Advantage Fitness Products, Oakley and American Golf. To provide additional resources, CGA has appointed six regional managers to assist in the programming of campus golf events and help coordinate the national tournament.
