Student Leadership Team sets goals for upcoming year

The Student Leadership Team is hard at work on the goals set while in Corvallis, Oregon in June. After discussing several great ideas, the team decided upon two major goals with corresponding objectives. The goals are quite ambitious, but with the dedication of the leadership team and the involvement of Student Members, we are excited to give back to NIRSA and to improve the Student Member’s experience within NIRSA. The following are the goals established for 2007-2008:

• Goal I: To enhance Student Member recruitment and improve Student Member development.
• Goal II: To increase student learning in the field of collegiate recreation.

You may notice that we have set fewer goals than previous years’ teams. The scale of these targets is quite large, given the specific purposes identified in each goal’s objectives. In addition to achieving the above goals, this year’s team is dedicated to upholding the accomplishments of former Student Leadership Teams, including, but not limited to, conducting Student Lead Ons in every region (2005-2006) and continuing the Make a Child Smile program in Austin (2006-2007). We are excited to build upon previous achievements and to push forward with our new goals.

Your involvement and input as Student Members is extremely important. Several states are still without state student representatives, and Campus Contacts at each institution are essential. The summer is going fast; the new school year is right around the corner. Start early in order to learn more and to get involved. Enjoy the rest of the summer, and get ready for an exciting year ahead.
