Legal Q&A column debuts in this issue
New feature will discuss law-related concerns of NIRSA Members
NIRSA Members will be able to learn more about the legal aspects of their profession, courtesy of Dr. James C. Kozlowski. Kozlowski will be providing a “Legal Q&A” column in the NIRSA Know beginning with this issue.
Kozlowski is an Associate Professor in the School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism at George Mason University. He is a licensed attorney who has written and lectured extensively on the legal and legislative aspects of parks and recreation administration in general and the issue of recreational injury liability in particular.
“Campus recreation has always been an area of interest for me and my students,” Kozlowski said. “I hope to learn more about the law-related concerns of the NIRSA membership, and provide some interesting and useful law-related information to them.”
Kozlowski’s first column is a liability case study regarding the use of a particular type of flag football belt (the “D-ring” belt not endorsed by the NIRSA Flag Football Rules Book). If you have law-related questions for Dr. Kozlowski to address in future columns, contact him directly at jkozlows@gmu.edu.
“As a potential juror or party to a lawsuit, increased legal literacy and understanding of the law is something every NIRSA Member can use. I look forward to hearing from them,” Kozlowski said.
If your topic is selected to appear in a future column, your name and institution will not be published. Keep in mind that any information in Legal Q&A is general in nature and should not be construed as legal advice or a legal opinion in a particular situation or jurisdiction. Any specific questions of this type should be directed to local counsel.
