CAS Executive Committee approves NIRSA's Standards and Guidelines for Recreational Sports Programs
Final approval by CAS Board expected this month
After an almost four-year process of reviewing and revising the NIRSA Recreational Sports General Standards, the NIRSA Standards Committee (Chair Kathy Bayless, Indiana University) submitted the revised standards to the CAS Executive Committee in early August. With very few questions, the CAS Executive Committee approved the standards, which will be reviewed at the October 2007 CAS Board meeting by the CAS 'committee of the whole.' Only minor editorial changes were recommended by the CAS Executive Committee.
Dixie Bennett (Loyola University, Chicago), NIRSA CAS representative from 1996-2007, will attend the fall 2007 CAS meeting, along with Kathy Bayless and Doug Franklin (Ohio University), incoming NIRSA representative to the CAS Board. Doug will replace Dixie at the conclusion of the October 2007 CAS meeting.
Once approved, the CAS Standards and Guidelines for Recreational Sports Programs will be published in the next edition of the CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education, expected to be released in the fall 2009. The approved Standards and Guidelines for Recreational Sports Programs will also be posted on the NIRSA website following adoption by CAS.
