National Collegiate Golf Championship gears up for Las Vegas
Part of the National Campus Championship Series
The National Collegiate Golf Championship (NCGC), part of the NIRSA National Campus Championship Series, is in full swing, with more than 40 schools across the country hosting local qualifiers. More than 2,500 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are projected to participate in local events in an attempt to qualify for the National Championship in Las Vegas November 9-11. A full weekend is scheduled, including registration and interviews, pairings party, National Skills Challenge, practice rounds and the Championship round.
Will Cal Poly Pomona, Western Kentucky, and the University of Southern Mississippi defend their titles in the three divisions? Are you ready to represent your university against a field of over 70 teams from across the country in the "bright lights, big city" of dreams? Through the end of October, golfers can qualify for the National Championship in Las Vegas through nearly 40 different local qualifiers. The top three teams in each division (Student, Faculty/Staff and Alumni/Community) qualify for the Championship. Travel stipends and National Championship entry packages are included in most events.
Twenty-five individuals are also trying to qualify for a trip to Las Vegas through several incentive programs. The AFP Skills Challenge is an event held during the on-campus golf expos. Three different skills are measured, with the overall best score from all events advancing to Las Vegas in Putting, Chipping and the SWA "How Far Did Ya Fly" Long Drive contest. Another exciting contest will send nine teams to Las Vegas through the Red Bull Final 5 competition. And finally, two Tournament Directors also have a chance to win a trip to the finals through an online registration incentive. For a complete list of contests and a current leader board, go to the NCGC website.
Individuals interested in volunteering should contact Julie Kipper. Volunteer duties include player and sponsor hospitality, Skill Challenge coordination, and Championship events.
Sponsors of the NCGC include Southwest Airlines, Upswing Golf, Cutter & Buck, American Hole in One, Red Bull, Golf World, Sports Illustrated On Campus, Advantage Fitness Products, Golf World, Oakley and American Golf.
