November means Regional Flag Football
Part of the National Campus Championship Series
Several Regional Flag Football Championships are taking place in November. All regional winners qualify for the NIRSA National Championships, hosted by The University of Texas at Dallas, taking place January 3-5, 2008. The NIRSA Regional and National Flag Football Championships are part of the National Campus Championship Series. Here's a run-down on some of the exciting regional action in store:
University of Iowa - November 2-4 Registration closed
For the second time in three years, the University of Iowa will host the NIRSA Flag Football Regional Championships. Teams from across the midwest will converge on the Hawkeye Recreation Fields in Iowa City for some intense flag football competition. University of Iowa - SSC boasts a very strong team that looks to win their regional and claim the NIRSA 2008 Flag Football National Championships. A number of competitive women's and co-rec teams are also expected at this year's regional championships.
Arizona State University - November 9-11 Register by November 2
The best teams in the west will compete at the NIRSA West Regional Flag Football tournament hosted by Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. This year's event will once again be played on four lighted fields in front of the Student Recreation Center. Last year, 26 teams competed in 80 degree weather and Utah Valley State College men's team and Arizona State University's-Franchise women's team took the title for the second year in a row. UNLV - BOTO snagged the co-rec division crown.
Cornell University - November 9-11 Register by November 6
In addition to the Northeastern Regional Flag Football Tournament, the Region I Conference will take place next door at Ithaca College, so there will be plenty of action in upstate New York the weekend of November 9-11. The tournament will be played on five lighted fields, with the championship games played on the artificial turf at Shoellkopf Field - home of Big Red football, field hockey, and lacrosse. Last year's champions Baldwin-Wallace College (men's) and College of New Jersey (co-rec) look to repeat their stellar performances from a year ago.
Southeast Missouri State University - November 9-11 Register by October 31
For the second straight year, Southeast Missouri State University will have three fields available when teams and staff converge on Cape Girardeau November 9-11. Last year, 15 teams competed in the inaugural event. Despite battling some rain, Southeastern Louisiana University - Da Wood took home the men's title 33-13 while The University of Texas at Dallas - Zeta Beta Tau Connection claimed the co-rec prize with a 13-0 victory over University of Nebraska-Lincoln - D-Unit.
University of Maryland - November 16-18 Register by November 9
The 14th annual University of Maryland regional, hosted by the Maryland Student Official's Association, will be played on four lighted field-turf fields and four natural grass fields at various campus locations, including the varsity football team's practice field. More than 80 teams from around the region will be featured in this year's tournament. The Maryland Student Official's Association is a student organization that develops officials by providing services to campus sport clubs and outside leagues. Since 1993, more than 30 All-American flag football officials have come from this tournament.
