The 14th annual NIRSA Collegiate Soccer Sport Club Championships, part of the NIRSA National Campus Championship Series, took place November 15-17 in Pensacola, Florida. It ended with a historic result as the University of California, Santa Barbara won both the men's and women's national championships, the first school ever to sweep the championship divisions. The UCSB men's team had to battle through a red card for more than 60 minutes in the final but prevailed over Texas Tech University 4-1 in penalty kicks after a 0-0 regulation score. Earlier, the UCSB women's team defeated defending national champion San Diego State University by a similar 4-1 penalty kick count after a 1-1 score in regulation. It was the first time one school swept any division since the men's and women's open championships were taken by Texas Tech in 1997. In the other division finals, it was the University of Missouri-Columbia defeating Border Showdown rival the University of Kansas 4-2 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 regulation score to win the men's open title. The women's open title went to Villanova University after they defeated the University of California, Berkley 3-1. The men's championship division consolation final went to Texas A&M University, a 1-0 winner over the University of Pennsylvania. Winning the sportsmanship awards were Augustana College in the men's division and the University of Delaware in the women's division. Both schools displayed the athleticism and friendship that embodies the spirit of fair play and competition that NIRSA envisions for all schools and competitions.
