Celebrate National Recreational Sports & Fitness Day February 22

It's not too late to get in on the fun!
National Recreational Sports & Fitness Day

National Recreational Sports & Fitness Day promotes the tremendous benefits of participation in recreational sports, and honors the representatives of 11 Historically Black Colleges/Universities who first met at Dillard University in New Orleans to form the National Intramural Association, NIRSA's predecessor.

Please tell us how you are going to celebrate by completing the "Count Me In" form on the NIRSA website.

Here you'll find a number of great ideas, including:

  • Tie your celebration into sustainability. Work with food service to provide food, snacks or drinks that utilize sustainable dining principles. Encourage faculty, staff and students to walk or ride their bikes to school to increase their fitness as well as lessen their "carbon footprint.?~@~] Provide exercise machines that can measure the amount of energy produced in a workout.
  • Conduct a fitness festival. Organize a series of campus-wide fitness activities.
  • Sponsor a campus employee fitness event.
  • Hold a 5K or 10K walk/run.
  • Conduct a fitness-health fair. Provide EMS demonstrations, Red Cross lifesaving training, screenings for weight, diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol, etc.

After your celebration, send photos and descriptions, and we'll post them on the website as "Highlights" for others to view.
