Highlights from the Program Committee
Look for new workshops, a greater number of poster presentations, and more
The Program Committee has implemented a number of exciting new initiatives for the 2008 Annual Conference, including:
Educational workshops
Four two-hour workshops will be offered during the Conference for no additional fee. The intent of the new format is to offer opportunities for more in-depth learning experiences. Most of the workshops will feature a networking opportunity, a presentation, and a roundtable. Workshop topics include outdoor recreation, small colleges, technology, and research.
Pre-conference seminar on Student Learning
The NIRSA Board of Directors, in congruence with recommendations from the Student Learning Knowledge Community, believes it is important to NIRSA that our members learn more about Student Learning Outcomes. Registration for this free pre-conference workshop, announced through the recsports listserv, filled quickly with over 50 NIRSA Members scheduled to participate.
Poster presentations
Poster presentations are a valuable way to share information, so a renewed emphasis was placed on recruiting poster sessions. Members stepped up to the challenge! More than 45 poster presentations in 14 topic areas will be featured. The posters will be displayed in a dedicated meeting room space in the Convention Center; this room will also serve as a break room, featuring lounge furniture and occasional refreshments.
Educational session highlights
After the Conference, a Conference Highlights section of the NIRSA website will feature video clips and/or print materials from a diverse selection of educational sessions. The purpose is to provide value to members who are not able to attend the Conference.
Please check the Conference program for details about these important new initiatives.
