2008 NCCS National Basketball Championships to be held April 18-20
More teams, more competition, and more excitement in store at The Ohio State University
For the second consecutive year, the best intramural basketball teams from across the country will flock to the campus of The Ohio State University April 18-20 for the 2008 NCCS National Basketball Championships, sponsored by POWERade.
Ken Hill, the director of Intramural Sports at Ohio State and this year’s tournament director, is expecting more teams to compete compared to last year.
“We had 45 teams in 2007, but we’re expecting around 60 teams this year,” said Hill.
The winning schools from each of the seven NCCS Regional Championships will receive an automatic bid to the National Championships. All other entries are taken on a first-come, first-served basis, with registrations being accepted until April 8.
Tournament officials are also selected in the same way as tournament teams, according to Kerry Kemp, director of tournament staff and officials.
“There will be 32 officials selected for the tournament,” said Kemp. “Twenty bids will be earned during the NCCS regional and state tournaments, and the remaining 12 will be selected at large.”
Officials interested in one of the 12 at-large spots must complete and return an application by March 31.
To help organize and run a three-day tournament of this size, more than 60 NIRSA professionals and students from around the country will also be on hand.
“Serving as the host of this tournament is a great honor and it’s always fun to see so many students and professionals working together,” said Hill. “Last year’s tournament went very well, and we look forward to building on that, making sure this year’s event provides an even better experience for everyone involved.”
