NCCS Committee working hard to develop and promote National Campus Championship Series
Committee shares guiding principles and strategies following summit
While in Corvallis in late June, the National Campus Championship Series (NCCS) Committee spent many hours laying the foundation for existing and future NCCS programs. After much discussion and input from everyone in the room, the NCCS Committee, which reports to the NIRSA Services Corporation (NSC), submitted the following guiding principles to the NSC Board of Directors for approval. The NSC and NCCS Committee will use these guidelines for all NCCS programs.
NCCS guiding principles adopted by the NSC Board July 20, 2006
- Support the Mission and Vision of NIRSA.
- Lead and govern through participatory and transparent practices.
- Establish and promote student and professional development.
- Create an NCCS brand identity of excellence.
- Comprehensively manage all fiscal responsibilities.
- Foster a culture of assessment and research in student engagement.
The NCCS Committee’s role will be to provide leadership in the development and delivery of all NCCS events. They will be working on these initial strategies over the next few months:
- Create a tradition of leadership and excellence.
- Communicate frequently and openly.
- Develop a comprehensive assessment plan, including timetable.
- Develop a strategic research agenda.
- Develop policies and processes to develop and deliver the National Campus Championship Series.
- Support efforts to attract and retain corporate partnerships.
- Develop and deliver sports at every level with fiscal accountability and an acknowledgement of NSC objectives to support NIRSA.
- Establish NCCS marketing materials and guidelines.
The decision and announcement of the NIRSA Flag Football National Championships being held at the University of Texas at Dallas January 4-7, 2007 is the first step in the committee's goal of providing leadership in the development and delivery of all NCCS events. In addition to supporting the upcoming events, the committee is now focusing their efforts on many important issues, including new sport and endorsement processes, event management, the extramural regional map, eligibility requirements, and models for all championship events. As always, member input is important during this process.
The NCCS Committee encourages members to contact them with questions or feedback regarding the NCCS.
